Shop Engineer

Current

Norton, Ohio

I am currently working as a Shop Engineer in National Enclosure Company's manufacturing facility. I am provided a range of tasks, from helping out the estimating department with bids, to quantifying materials to be ordered, to checking glass sizes using my mad CAD skills, and going down to the shop floor to fabricate parts. I have also been on site and currently helping with a list of units needing work or clean up done to them in the field.

Mar 2016 - Present

Process Engineer

West Chester, Ohio

I worked for Harmon Inc. as a Process Engineer. Harmon Inc. is a company that specializes in building and installing exterior unitized curtain wall systems for commercial buildings. I worked in the manufacturing facility where we pre-build the units to be shipped and set on site. The process engineer job focused on continuous improvement, like conducting time studies of shop tasks to find ways to increase efficiency and eliminate waste. I wrote standard work instructions of many of the shop processes by writing out descriptions of each step accompanied with a picture. If greater lengths of improvement were required I participated in kaizen events where we selected shop personal and spend a week using a charter or agenda and process flowcharts to improve these tasks. Another key role of this job was acting as the engineering liaison; if an issue occurred out in the floor with part or shop drawings, I was given the information. I looked at the drawings and identified the specific problems. Then I send this information to the engineering staff to revise the drawings. Once the drawings were revised I stamp them as revisions and took the updates out the shop floor.

Project Coordinator

West Chester, Ohio

I started with Harmon in December 2012 and interned with them for three months. I was hired on as a Project Coordinator and worked in that job until April 2015. One of my tasks was doing take-offs using the shop drawings for the metal, gasket, and fastener needs of projects. After I ordered these materials and they arrived in the shop I maintained inventory logs so I knew how much was used and if we had enough to complete the projects. I helped develop the production schedule the shop used to determine what portions of the building must be built in a given week. I helped with logistics and work closely with the field crews to know when and what units they needed shipped to them. I utilized my AutoCAD skills on occasion by drawing part drawings then quantifying the number of parts needed by using an optimizer program.

Dec 2012 - Apr 2015

Intern

Barber Architectural Studio
2011 - 2012 ~1 yr

Intern

Rockville, Maryland

During my 2010 summer internship with Grunley Construction, I gained a greater understanding about construction. I learned how a general contractor operated and the importance of maintaining good relations with co-workers and subcontractors. Throughout the internship, I attended several building tours and training sessions. While walking on the site tours, I noticed how building details came together in the field and observed the challenges involved in renovating buildings. Working on change orders, checking cost proposals, and calling subcontractors, I learned the responsibilities of a general contractor. I understood why contracts were important and why it was necessary to keep all backup paperwork in case of a conflict. I learned how to work with subcontractors and how to deal with them in a fair way. When I worked on site, I learned the importance of being friendly with workers and getting to know them in order to build good relations. Working on the Eisenhower Executive Office Building was an unforgettable experience of which I was a part of its long and epic history.
