Forestry Technician position balancing field and office work in the Marys Peak Field Office of the Northwest Oregon District. Duties primarily consisted of collecting and compiling forest and woodland management data regarding location, size, character, extent, volume, rate of growth, and quality of timber. Collected forest inventory data from timber cruises, prepared timber sales, performed timber markings in forest development projects, road layout projects, amongst other miscellaneous duties. Assisted professional Foresters by gathering a variety of resource information used to prepare the forestry portion of Resource Management Planning document. Performed stocking surveys to monitor reforestation efforts in project areas and ensure quality control on plantings from contracted planting crews. Conducted stand exams to examine and document forest composition and structure. Marked and designated timber to be removed in timber sales or for use disposals. Compiled data points and maps of forest and woodland areas, cutover area, burned areas and special use areas in preparation for timber sales.Routinely worked with the interdisciplinary team. Participated in IDT meetings, providing input on relevant field sites and conditions throughout Marys Peak. Assisted field office Fish Biologist with fish shocking to detect and document presence/absence of fish species in project areas. Oversaw contracted restoration projects, mainly large woody debris (LWD) placement. Conducted stream inception point surveys to determine location and periodicity of water within BLM boundary areas. Performed restoration work in timber sale areas via revegetation of landings and other disturbed areas with native plant species. Collected native seed from Areas of Critical Environmental Concern (ACEC) to contribute to district seed bank and revegetation efforts. Created exhibit maps for use in timber sale contracts for GIS specialists using ArcGIS Pro and data collected through FieldMaps.
