In August 2011, through my internship with People for Urban Progress (PUP), we embarked on a project to remove, refurbish, and re-use landfill-bound Bush Stadium seats throughout the city at bus stops and in public spaces. I was fortunate enough to take part in every step of the project from perceiving a need for more seating at bus stops, to initial research and development of the idea, to larger city-wide coordination efforts (including IndyGo, Recycle Force, Indy Parks, Develop Indy, the… Show more In August 2011, through my internship with People for Urban Progress (PUP), we embarked on a project to remove, refurbish, and re-use landfill-bound Bush Stadium seats throughout the city at bus stops and in public spaces. I was fortunate enough to take part in every step of the project from perceiving a need for more seating at bus stops, to initial research and development of the idea, to larger city-wide coordination efforts (including IndyGo, Recycle Force, Indy Parks, Develop Indy, the BNS, IFab & Core Redevelopment, as well as many others), through funding procurement and logistics, physical removal, disassembly, and storage of the seats, site selection, product innovation, and then final installation, at over 100 locations throughout the city. Overall, we were able to save over 9,000 seats from being thrown away, generate income by selling and recycling many of them, and finally restore hundreds of them for use throughout Indianapolis.
