- Developed and maintains COSMO Suite, a stochastic global mine planning optimization tool that aims to bridge the link between advanced academic research and the mining industry. - Provides technical guidance and training for graduate students and their research projects, in addition to serving as a liaison with the laboratory’s board members.- Course instructor and guest lecturer for graduate and undergraduate courses for content related to multiple-point geostatistics, phase design, global optimization for mining complexes under uncertainty and multistage stochastic programming.

I completed my PhD in mining engineering at COSMO Laboratory. My research focus is on global optimization of open pit mining complexes with uncertainty. Through this research, we look at new ways to manage risk in long-term (LOM) production scheduling. I have also done some research in multiple-point and high-order geostatistical simulation.Some of my work and achievements at COSMO Laboratory include:- Applying newly developed geostatistical algorithms and theory to quantify the impact of volumetric and multi-element grade uncertainty in Vale’s Coleman McCreedy deposit, Sudbury, ON.-Developing a new framework for integrating geological uncertainty in pushback designs for complex multi-process mines while simultaneously accounting for grade and material-type uncertainty. Applied methods at BHP Billiton’s Escondida Norte mine, Chile, and yielded substantial decrease in risk for the mine’s phase design.- Developing a stochastic global optimization framework for open pit mining complexes. This work aims to consider geological uncertainty and simultaneously optimize operations with multiple mines, destination policies (including blending), complex processing streams and capital expenditures. These tools have been tested on two real-world cases, including Vale's Onca Puma nickel laterite mining complex and a copper-gold mine in South America. - Teaching assistant for a course on stochastic orebody modelling, and professional development courses on risk assessment in ore reserves and mine planning optimization.

- Constructed models and analyzed on the effects of stresses in an extremely weak remnant pillar at Agnico Eagle’s Lapa mine, Val d’Or, QC, which were induced by the stope extraction sequence. - Created guides and learning materials for performing similar risk analyses in stope designs for FLAC3D, and prepared course materials for finite element methods in rock mechanics.

I worked for the Process Integration and Optimisation group at Metso Minerals Process Technology. Some of my work at PIO included:- Research in the use of P-waves for use in rock strength classification systems.- Quantifying improvements in material throughput by tracking particle-size distributions from the mine to the mill.- Manufacturing miniature RFID tags used to track material from blasting to crushing to better assess mining and milling processes and find new ways to improve models, performance and profits.

During my internship at Vale's Frood mine, located in Sudbury, I had several roles and responsibilities that helped me gain a basis in underground mining, including:- Helping to introduce new software (Mine 2-4D) to the mine and updated mine models by digitizing and integrating existing raises and stopes into the mine’s 3-D models.- Creating stope designs for remnant pillar recovery with Mine 2-4D.- Creating a production schedule with EPS and performed a financial risk analysis to highlight opportunities and risks.- Ensuring quality-of-workplace with frequent ventilation checks, designed development layouts and aided with cable bolt designs.
