My current role is Team and K8s Technical Lead of the Compute Deployment team.As a team, Compute Deployment are responsible for running G-Research’s core Compute systems; Kubernetes, Openstack, AWS and the underlying infrastructure platforms (Active Directory, Infoblox, VMware and more). My current day-to-day technical responsibilities include; extensive use of Kubernetes, Openstack, Vault, Terraform, Ansible, Python and Puppet as well as general DevOps tooling. My previous roles have made me highly skilled at running large scale production Linux environments (principally Ubuntu and RHEL/CentOS) in addition to having exposure to Flatcar. Recent projects have included being one of the principal engineers working on a deployment on a 250+ user OpenStack deployment of Ubuntu workstations in a high security environment, making these accessible via PCoIP and Citrix.My non-technical responsibilities include acting as second in command for management, line managing University placement students, acting as a point of escalation for the team, running and delivering key business initiatives in addition to managing Sprints and acting as a Scrum Master. In addition to Compute, Linux and DevOps workflows, I have an excellent knowledge of Networking & Infrastructure, having graduated with a Bsc in Computer Network Management & Design from the University of Portsmouth in 2013. Having previously worked in both IT Support and WinOps based roles at G-Research, my skills are not limited to just Linux systems - I also have a good knowledge of Powershell/DSC and have been Cisco CCNA and Microsoft MCSA certified in the past.
