As a research technician in the Center for Genomic Medicine in the Eichler Lab, I help research molecular and genomic mechanisms behind X-ALD, HSAN1, and Tay-Sachs Disease in patients using patient clinic samples and murine disease models. • Conducting pharmacology studies on ABCD1 deficient mice including weight and motor control testing. • Modeling peripheral neuropathy via gene and protein expression in Db/Db mice.• Modeling biomarker expression of phagocytosis via gene and protein analysis. • Genotyping murine models. • Collecting samples for western blots, cell fixation and staining, and VLCFA analysis. • Processing patient blood samples for cell line generation. • Serving as a team member of The Center for Rare Neurological Diseases.• General lab management including chemical inventory, restocking of supplies, holding conference calls with outside private collaborators, and attending meetings. • Played integral role analyzing and providing primary research on lead poisoning in human clinical cases and basic science articles for Dr. Mielke and the Environmental Defense Fund’s lawsuit against Combe Company’s FDA appeal for Combe Hair Dye market access • Assisted Dr. Mielke and Lead Lab Inc sample New Orleans urban environment for urban lead mapping and study of public routes of exposure.
