Currently working as a project engineer for concrete construction projects throughout the Washington area. In this role I am responsible for the creation of survey and lift models in AutoCAD to use in conjunction with total station survey equipment for field layout. I assist in the estimation and bidding of new concrete projects, as well as preliminary scheduling and construction methods. After working though the forming design calculations I will also create forming drawings to be sent for field use. When projects are in construction I help with answering questions for project superintendents as well as sending out RFI's, submittals, and engineering related questions.

At Armour Unsderfer Engineering I worked as a project engineer designing seismic supports for Mechanical/Electrical/Plumbing systems hung from various types of structures. This involved calculating load paths and seismic forces in order to provide adequate bracing for piping, conduits, and cable trays. This required me to review drawings sets from architects and contractors to find clash detections and design restraints with the goal of optimizing my design for cost and efficiency. Through this process I gained knowledge of seismic and wind codes for regions all around the country, as well as how to interact with clients and contractors in order to deliver the best project results.

While working as a Structural Engineer for DCI I mainly focused on using software and hand calculations in order to design concrete elements for buildings such as columns, basement walls, and various foundations. I also worked on wooden podium projects where I designed floor joist layouts, sized beams and headers, and calculated load weights for interior and exterior columns.

In this internship I was able to be onsite large residential homes where I learned the process of design from a construction point of view. While observing this process I also had design meetings with architects and engineers where we had to make in the field design choices and fixes. This internship gave me an understanding of how residential houses are built and what steps are taken to get to a finished product.
