I worked as a Graduate Design Engineer at Group Lotus as part of the Chassis Structures Department.My role used Catia to modify and design parts within the the aluminium bonded monoque and the front sub frame for current and future models. To achieve this I worked alongside other departments to ensure that all team's designs integrated together and everyone's requirements were met.

This included managing and updating the team's website, being the figurehead for the team's social media activity, promoting our team within the University to encourage Year 1 & Year 2 engineering students to be involved with the team and compiling all minutes for meetings.

As an Engineering Intern I spent 8 months as a Manufacting Engineer and 4 months as a Design Engineer. Whilst in the Manufacturing department I was tasked with assessing the company's flagship assembly line to determine Ways to improve the line's efficiency. Using 5S, and Lean Principles I implemented a new line layout to reorganise line side stock and more detailed build documentation which would reduced training time for new starters, whilst also ensuring quality standards are still met. These changes resulted in the line efficiency increasing by 20% and continuing to rise after I left. Whilst in the Design department I was assigned a project where a wheel sensor bracket was failing due to grass build up inside the wheel. This was investigated and I subsequently designed a system that would ‘seal’ the wheel whilst also strengthening the bracket. This was sent to the affected customers for a trial, proving to be successful. In both of these projects, I had to utilise both my project management skills and my communication skills to ensure that I built up productive working relationships with other departments and external clients.

The Student Mentor Scheme is a University-wide scheme offering students peer-led help with study skills. Within the department I worked on a one-to-one basis with students seeking assistance with their studies. This role required me to have good communication and listening skills as well as having good time management in order to assist other students at the same time as keeping on top of my own work.
