I also am also learning two-eyed seeing as a member of our Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation Program Working Group, where I help coordinate actives and events to further this important work in forestry research.

A contract position involving research related to a wet areas mapping (WAM) studying looking at the feasibility of LiDAR to predict areas of high biodiversity in the boreal forest at the Ecosystem Management Emulating Natural Disturbance (EMEND) forestry research project near Peace River, AB.Work has included:- Learning about LiDAR and Wet Areas Mapping- Field and lab identification, and cover surveys of bryophytes and vascular plants- Forest structure assessment- Using a deferentially corrected GPS unit (SX-Blue II) to record geographic coordinates of study sites- Data entry and verification

This was a contract position for the 2013 and 2014 Field Seasons. In this position I honed a wide variety of skills that I learned in college, such as plant ID, ecosite classification, and environmental sampling. I used aerial-photos/satellite imagery and maps to plan site access and navigate to sites, and a Trimble GPS and/or compass to establish sites.Duties involved:- Diligently conducting grassland, parkland, and cropland vegetation inventories, and foliar cover estimates across Southern Alberta- Collecting and pressing vascular plant voucher specimens- Recording migratory bird songs and determining the ecological land classification for each bird song recording point- Properly collecting and preparing soil samples for shipping to the lab for analysis- Carefully collecting lichen and moss specimens, and later identifying them in the lab- Successfully navigating the Range and Township road system in the dark at 3 am while sleep deprived
