About Ryan Sylvester
In my new position I aim to play a pivotal role in driving economic growth across the South Yorkshire region. A comprehensive strategic plan has been developed for the South Yorkshire Investment Zone programme, taking into account the region's unique strengths, opportunities, and challenges. Focussed on the Advanced Manufacturing and its application across sectoral boundaries, with initial funding £160 million over 10 years, our team and wider partners will be responsible for supporting and connecting our local businesses to this opportunity.Previously, at Sheffield Hallam University, my journey as a Project Manager in the Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre focused on fostering innovation, particularly in sport, health and wellbeing technologies. I have initiated collaborative R&D partnerships with businesses at local to international levels, aiding them from concept to market readiness. I supported matchmaking and submission of funding applications, as well as managing funds from corporate sponsors, University QR, and individual research council awards e.g. Research England RED fund.I designed and delivered the AWRCs Advanced Wellbeing Accelerator through multiple cohorts, providing founders with essential tools for success. This role allowed me to contribute significantly to the university's strategic aim of bridging the gap between academia, industry and wider partners. My commitment was to advance health technologies that supported independence and helped individuals to prevent and/or manage chronic diseases, ultimately contributing to a healthier society.I also delivered the AWRC Innovation Futures programme, which under my leadership sought to empower young people from South Yorkshire to explore a greater variety of interconnected career opportunities across the Health & wellbeing sector.
