Coordinates the funding and contract management of a WA local government sampling and testing program to identify and reduce the risks to individuals and communities from food and environmental health hazards.

Responsible for - • Subject matter expert advisory role for Incident Management Team coordinating mosquito related matters for Kimberley Floods Emergency Response. Logistics and coordination of mosquito related protection items (repellent supply, mosquito nets, communications and public awareness materials.• Provision of expert technical advice to stakeholders (general public, mining companies, local government, State government, Commonwealth government) on mosquito-borne disease risks and management.• Provision of expert technical assessment and comments to development applications.• Leading development and delivery of mosquito related training to stakeholders, in particular local government Environmental Health Officers.Achievements:• Development and delivery of specialised informational material for remote communities to use protection from biting mosquitoes and post flood recovery information.• Unique Emergency Management problem solving to source mosquito control products and repellent supplies from national suppliers and coordinate logistics to be received to flood affected Kimberley region in a timely manner.

Responsible for - • Liaising with local government and State Government officers for project work or provision of advice, information or training;• Coordination of tide gauge installation project on three bridges on Swan and Canning rivers, for the purpose of providing more accurate tide data to time mosquito surveillance and management strategies; • Coordination and fieldwork of the Kimberley Sewage pond audit project for the purpose of visually inspecting selected wastewater infrastructure in the Kimberley region to determine mosquito breeding potential and recommend improvement measures.• Attendance at and facilitation of local government and CLAG meetings to provide ‘mosquito season’ updates, disease statistics and mosquito management advice or information;• Provision of expert advice and information to members of the public, responses to queries and complaints;• Liaison with local government and State Government officers for project work or provision of advice, information or training;• Coordination of the Minister for Health’s Funding Initiative for Mosquito Management in WA (FIMMWA) funding grant submissions and reporting, meeting schedules and provision of advice and information;• Coordination of Contiguous Local Authority Group (CLAG) mosquito management program including funding grant submissions and reporting, meeting schedules and provision of advice and information;• Attendance at local government and CLAG meetings to provide ‘mosquito season’ updates, disease statistics and mosquito management advice or information.

Responsible for -• Producing high level briefing notes for the Minister, Chief Health Officer, Director General Health and Executive Director Environmental Health.• Researching and preparing public consultation and other submissions on behalf of the EHDWA, discussion papers, reports, gazettal notices and policy documents relating to Western Australian environmental health legislation and policy.• Educating and training Environmental Health Officers (EHOs) and other government officers on the application of environmental health legislation and policy to effectively manage environmental health risks in Western Australia.• Providing high level advice in the interpretation and administration of environmental health legislation and policy. • Assisting with reviews of environmental health legislation and provision of drafting instructions to the Parliamentary Counsel through liaison with Senior Departmental Officers on the drafting of amendments to Acts, regulations and gazettal notices.• Presenting lectures, workshops and seminars in relation to environmental health legislation and policy.• Representing Environmental Health Directorate on national and state committees and working groups as required, in the capacity as a policy advisor.

Responsible for - • Providing direction for complex technical tasks within the Compliance & Enforcement Team queries and a point of reference for Directorate technical experts.• Reviewing complex reports, prosecution briefs, Briefing Notes, Parliamentary Questions, Ministerials, policy documents and other documents for publishing before sending to Executive Director Environmental Health for approval.• Undertaking regular Performance Management discussions with staff to ensure staff development and Directorate outcomes are aligned.• Reviewing systems and procedures to ensure innovation and continuous improvement.• Developing and implement plans, policies and strategies to support the provision of services to internal and external customers including liaison with relevant internal stakeholders to ensure work standards and requirements are being met.• Representing the Department of Health at a senior level on/at Committees, Working Parties, Tribunals, Regional Health Groups and Public Forums. • Developing action plans to ensure Environmental Health Directorate change management strategies are implemented.• Assisting in the review, interpretation and recommendation of changes to legislation and government policy (specific to Public Health Act 2016, Food Act 2008 and Tobacco Products Control Act 2006).

Coordinates staff resourcing of Environmental Health Operations and Compliance tasks and issues, including Tobacco Industry licensing and legislative Compliance, Food Industry Assessments/Registrations and legislative Compliance, Water Industry licensing/Registration/Assessments and legislative Compliance, pathogen outbreak investigation and liaison.
