18 years of experience across the Real Estate, Community Development, and Entrepreneurship industries. Ryan currently serves as a Managing Director of Real Estate for New Jersey Community Capital (NJCC), the largest community development financial institution in New Jersey. Ryan oversees NJCC’s real estate arm, CAPC. CAPC is a fully vertical nonprofit developer and owner/operator that works mostly in the multifamily and single family asset classes. Before joining CAPC he was the Portfolio Manager of 2.5 million sf of retail space (valued at $1 billion) for Madison International Realty, a global private equity real estate firm. Prior to Madison International Ryan had stints at Brixmor, MetLife, and CIT where he worked on both the equity and debt sides of the real estate business and acquired, financed, or managed institutional quality commercial real estate valued in the billions. Ryan honed his community development skills while working at Brick City Development Corporation, a 501 c3 entity created by the City of Newark under Corey Booker. There he sourced and managed a portfolio of real estate and small business loans and provided numerous hours of technical assistance to the residents of the City.In addition to his corporate experience Ryan has also pursued a handful of entrepreneurial ventures. Through his real estate advisory firm, AAO Property Group he has worked with firms such as Cushman & Wakefield, The Brookings Institute, and Local Initiatives Support Corporation. He was a co-founder of the youth AAU basketball program, Newark Runnin Rebels as well as a gaming and content company, 361 Commission. Most recently he was an advisor and an angel investor in the Jersey City based emerging hospitality concept Go-To-Kitchen. Mr. Johnson earned a BS in Commerce with a Concentration in Finance from the University of Virginia, McIntire School of Commerce. He now serves as a member of the Urban Land Institute Redevelopment & Reuse Product Council, an Advisory Board member for the White Ruffin Byron Center for Real Estate at the University of Virgina, and a Council Member for The PNC Community Development New Jersey Advisory Council.
