The Deputy Director supports Water Services to deliver front line services for the Water Utility, Water Treatment and Supply, Wastewater Collection and Treatment and Stormwater Management. This role provides strategic direction and issue management support to the Director of Water Services and is accountable for:-Water Treatment and Supply, Service Steward for the Utility – a role that functions across the Utility to support service line decision make, risk mitigation and service direction to enable the delivery of drinking water services to our customers-Water Treatment Plant and Drinking Water Distribution Operations in Water Services -Advancing engineering practice roles and responsibilities across Water Service-Safety Governance across Water Services -Sponsorship of supporting workforce program such as Attendance Management and Workforce Accommodations-Business Continuity and Emergency Management planning-Managing key risks and issues across Water Services

The Operational Services division in Water Services enables the achievement of our customer promises by coordinating operational functions that allow for the fulfillment of shared Utility mandates.We focus on:• Advancing service-based, customer-centered strategies and processes that support operating groups to be successful in a customer focused environment. • Strategic business process redesign to support efficient delivery of frontline service.• Management of Vehicles and Equipment across the Water Utility.• Building best practices in workforce management, improving resource planning requirements, and advancing the application of technology to support these practices.• Delivery of Front Line support services, such as hydrovac services, repair shop support, and clay material recycling

• Responsible for operational issues related to all aspects of installation and maintenance of water meters and cross connection control devices within the City of Calgary• Lead the Meters to Cash program – sponsor the development and implementation of a mobile application to enhance data collection in the field; Partner with ENMAX to develop improved processes for information transfer between the organizations• Develop performance metrics for Meters and improved efficiencies through process improvement activities• Support emergency response activities for Water Services, Field Services • Manage operations and capital budgets for the Meters and Cross Connection Control Areas• Responsible for reviewing and implementing new procedures related to operations and safety

• Managed the operation of the water distribution system, sanitary lift stations and water meters installation and maintenance; Over 60 staff and $9M of capital budget • Acted as a member of the operational response team for the 2013 flood; Lead Lift Station Flood recovery both in the short term and long term time frames• Developed strategic direction for lift station and meter capital budget programs to build three year investment decision• Manage the leak locating/ leak survey and water loss program

• Provided strategic direction and supervision for a team of 16 staff members to review various development and capital project submissions in order to ensure quality infrastructure• Provided guidance and leadership for staff on interpretations of standards and liaise with the development industry• Conducted a business process improvement program for development submission processes and implemented a series of improvements to enhance customer service:• Improvements to work flow tracking; implemented formal submission tracking and reporting system• Submission review improvements; implementation of construction drawing checklists and focus on customer service• Represented Water Resources in negotiations with the Urban Development Institute• Represented Infrastructure Planning on the Low Impact Development Steering Committee

• Led the development and reporting of the Water Resources and Water Services work plan for 2009-2011• Represented Water Resources on the 2009-2011 business planning team for UEP • Coordinated reports from Water Resources to the Standing Policy Committee on Utilities and Environment• Planned and organized the 2008 Water Resources Symposium• Facilitated numerous Aldermanic and customer requests• Provided informal leadership, assisting staff with issue management and problem resolution• Supported the development and delivery of the UEP Leadership Sessions to build leadership skills across the Department

• Managed multiple wastewater and water capital construction projects• Authored and presented “Sanitary Sewer Odour Control” paper at 2001 WCWWA conference in Edmonton • Investigated, designed and managed five odour control projects on the wastewater collection system• Project Manager for Phase 2 and 3 of the Shepard Stormwater Diversion Project • Design Lead and Project Manager for North Beddington Sanitary Sewer TUC crossing • Project Manager for the 60 Street Feedermain • Designed and estimated costs of wastewater capital projects• Engaged public and Alderman on associated work• Lead design team for Infrastructure Delivery on Water Resources/Water Services Business Integration Project • Mentored junior staff on project management and project delivery• Participated in Corporate Project Management Manual development
