About Ryan Kidd
First and foremost I’m a dad to two amazing daughters and a husband to a wonderful wife, but at work……. I’d love to be described as someone who brings out the best in others. As I left my final degree exam 20+ years ago I commented to one of my lecturers, after she asked “what I was planning to do next?”, that “I wasn’t going to be an accountant”……….. fast forward 6 months and I started my first job as a trainee accountant. It was a great learning environment, the work was good, being part of a medical school that focused heavily on research made me feel like I was making a difference, and the tasks let my inner geek shine (who doesn’t love it when the balance sheet balances), but it wasn’t until I started working within large teams that I really found a love for what I do. In past roles I’ve had a lot of fun working as part of multi-disciplinary teams leading business units, which involved partnering with operations’ leaders, sales & commercial leaders and other functional leaders (HSE, procurement, legal, HR etc) to develop strategies and oversee execution. There have been periods of growth, when it’s been about enabling (enabling relationships, enabling quality, enabling safety, enabling morale, enabling market share, enabling cashflow) and there have been periods of downturn, where the challenges have been quite different. Now I lead SLB’s global finance services team (voted top 5 GBS in the world in 2024), made up of circa 2,000 people located around the world. Outside of the operational responsibilities, I spend as much time as I can on a few key priorities;1. Setting the strategy and direction, during a period of rapid change for the finance profession2. Identifying and developing the best talent, preparing them to lead the company in the future3. Enabling the elimination of non-value adding activities, and making the remainder as simple and as standard as possible4. Leveraging the latest technologies, including machine learning, generative AI & automation, to optimise processes and leaving our teams to focus on what matters most In my spare time I love to travel and whilst my dreams of “stealing my daddy’s cue and making a living out of playing pool” are long gone, I’m trying to teach the kids how to play
Listed skills include Managerial Finance, Internal Controls, Financial Reporting, Forecasting, and 17 others.
