I completed this study abroad experience during Senior year of my undergraduate degree. Within the Central Asian Studies program, I took courses on Russian and Kyrgyz language learning in addition to Central Asian politics, history, and culture (all based at the London School of Languages and Cultures). I frequently participated in cultural excursions across Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan. I also interacted with locals during language immersion experiences, while living with my host family, and while experiencing life in Bishkek.

I completed independent research utilizing university library and online resources. I focused on a selection of “stateless languages” in Eurasia: Saami, Tatar, and Rusyn. My thesis received a distinction in the Russian major, and I presented it in the University of California’s 2023 Undergraduate Conference on Slavic and East/Central European Studies.

I was one of five interns selected for CEIP’s Diverse Internship Program. I interned within the Russia and Eurasia program, assisting with research, events, transcription, and analysis and working alongside experts in the field of international relations. I expanded my knowledge and awareness of Russia and former Soviet nations, as well as the changing dynamics between and within them.
