I am currently acting as the Project Engineer responsible for services & utilities packages across the site including the Services Building, Main Station Building and Sitewide Utility Connections.Responsibilities of the role include;- Coordinate and administer construction engineering activities to ensure that projects are implemented in accordance with plans, designs and specifications.- Assist with the preparation and management of site construction budgets, forecasts, procurement, and reports.- Monitor construction progress for adherence to programme and report to the Senior Project Engineer or Project Manager.- Interpret designs for implementation in construction projects.- Contribute to improvements to existing designs.- Arrange and oversee the letting of tenders.- Demonstrate financial management skills and commercial acumen when making decisions.- Assign work and assist with reviews for accuracy and adherence to required standards.- Execute working knowledge of contractual and legislation relevant to the project.- Undertake quantitative and qualitative safety, environment and quality risk assessments to ensure acceptable quality.- Analyse and use document and record management progress and project performance reporting compliance reporting.- Demonstrate sound people management skills by managing work and performance of subcontractors to achieve outcomes.- Utilise effective time management skills including sequencing of work of own and resource time management. Commencing in April I undertook a six month secondment as a Site Engineer - Electrical at Roma Street Station to complete this work.

We realised the vast knowledge gap between tertiary education and industry, largely in practical knowledge and skills required to confidently perform early on in your career. Noticing that nothing was really out there in terms of a readily accessible and easy to use digital library of knowledge, Jack and I set out to create one. By sharing the stories of ourselves and others, we aim to encourage equal participation in STEM (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics) as well as better equip young professionals out there to successfully choose and begin the career that suits their aspirations and skill-sets best. This position allows me to develop my understanding of the diversity within a professional services consultancy whilst also expanding on my abilities as a consulting electrical engineer.I was retained following the completion of an undergraduate role in my final semester of university in large part due to my energetic personality, willingness to tackle any task, and ability to learn on the fly. I was given the responsibility to headline an Options Study and Business Case project for a Government Owned Corporation and was formally offered a graduate position as a result of the successful progress on the project. The placement was part of the IAP (Industry Affiliates Program) structured into my Bachelor's Degree that allows the students to produce a professional research thesis within an industry specific setting. As a member of the Energy Solutions Team, I was specifically tasked with assisting the Design Engineers and Testing Engineers in the analysis, design and implementation of the Control Systems for two HVIU's (High Voltage Injection Unit) called Pegasus.Pegasus is a portable HVIU used to temporarily support or replace the Mains Power Supply within an area primarily for extreme cases of power demand or outages such as natural disasters i.e. tropical cyclones and storms etc. The Pegasus unit receives a low voltage power supply from a generator and steps up the voltage to 11kV/22kV for local distribution purposes. The 1MW Pegasus unit is completely housed within a 20' shipping container and includes main components such as a 415V-11kV/22kV step up transformer, SF6 RMU (Ring Main Unit), Nu-Lec ACR (Automatic Circuit Recloser), and MiCOM P142 Protection Relay. As part of the IAP I undertook research within the project and formulated a 60 page engineering report to complete the Honours requirement of my degree, this research focused on the performance and reliability of the three earlier Pegasus units that featured PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) hardware opposed to that of the two new Pegasus units that will transfer the responsibilities of the previous PLC to the RTU (Remote Terminal Unit).
