I was promoted to the position of Assistant Practitioner within the histopathology laboratory and the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. This role has allowed for a more hands on experience within the department.My duties include:- Working in a team of around ten members, as well as alongside consultant medics.- embedding and microtomy of tissue specimens in order to obtain quality sections for diagnosis by medics.- Covering of the duties of Biomedical Support Workers during times of high workload or staff shortage.- The scanning and sorting of cases in numerical order for triage by the duty consultant pathologist.- Required to show excellent organisation as I have responsibility for my own workload, as well being required to show flexibility to reprioritise workload due to changing service demands.- Data entry into Excel spreadsheets on a daily basis.
