I'm an English major at UNT, a library student employee, and a reading extraordinaire; in other words, my world revolves around stories. I'm becoming an editor to bring these stories to every home that needs them.I entered the University of North Texas (UNT) as a sophomore and have maintained a grade point average of 3.9 while working part-time as a student employee. I prioritize classes with a wide variety of writing style requirements and pursued casual editing among freelance writers. Between my experience in workshops, the campus library, the writing center, and the writing discord I lurk, I have a plethora of experience with genre and personality. Alongside my pursuit of writing literacy, I’m an active member of the foster care alumni group on campus, known as PUSH (Persevere Until Success Happens). I had the honor of speaking at lawyer's conferences, on child protective services panels, and interacting with the local foster homes and youths that are drawn to UNT. As both a former foster youth and a first-generation student, I know firsthand the power books have in creating a safe space in the midst of turbulence. Helping these incoming freshmen find their footing in a similarly terrifying world has only bolstered my desire to find and publish stories to create a better narrative for kids like I was. I am excited to use my current schooling and passion for literacy to gain formal experience. Working at the main library at UNT as an academic student assistant has only bolstered that excitement. As a student employee, I am best known for my dependability and commitment to various library projects, such as our National Novel Writing Month workshops and Americans with Disabilities Act equipment tutorial videos. I am also employed at the Writing Center as a peer tutor. I am responsible for helping any and all students who walk in with assignments that range from personal statements to research papers. As a generalist tutor, I work with every major on campus on all genres of assignments, engaging in a variety of diverse tutoring methods to fit every student's needs.I graduate in May of 2024 and am joining Teach For America (TFA) as one of their '24 corp members!
