I have worked on a distribution construction crew while obtaining experience toward becoming a Journeyman Powerline Technician. This experience has given me knowledge in many aspects of power line construction. I have worked in underground and overhead installation including framing and setting poles, stringing, dead ending, guy installation, pole climbing, cable pulling and splicing. I feel this experience has given me an excellent foundation of knowledge as I grow within the Powerline Technician trade. I hope to continue to gain knowledge in different aspects of the industry to become an effective and productive Powerline Technician.Having worked in civil construction for 7 years, I was very excited to pursue a new opportunity in the field of power line construction as an apprentice. While it has been a challenge to learn a new trade and step into a new role, I have been able to apply many things I learned in underground construction to my new career. I moved from labourer to excavator operator to foreman while in underground construction. Along the way, I learned to operate and maintain heavy equipment, read blueprints, train other employees, communicate with various stakeholders, and lead crews of up to 10 employees. I also attained a 4th Class Power Engineering certificate through the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology and completed my steam time while at the Keyera Rimbey Gas Plant. I gained an understanding of power generation and distribution through this program and have been able to apply what I learned during my apprenticeship as a Powerline Technician.
