Ryan Menezes is a Principal Group Engineering Manager at Microsoft at Microsoft. Colleagues describe him as "Ryan is one of the best engineering manager I have managed in Microsoft.
First of all, he is very technical. We started a project called "real time computer vision" and I appointed him as the engineering manager. In a short month, he was able to lead architecture discussions within my team as well as with partner teams in other divisions. His knowledge went beyond video codec and streaming processing, as he showed people how to design a scalable system that can be easily deployed while gracefully integrated with Microsoft Azure and AI platforms.
Second, he drove for results. We had a challenging timeline during the project's bootstrap timeframe. He did not compromise on product quality. In 4 months, his team was able to deliver a plausible demo to senior executives and earned the long-term investment from upper management.
Ryan is a good team player. There are many related or even similar technologies in Microsoft. Ryan was able to lead constructive discussions, contributing to others success, while delivering on his own commitments.
Ryan is a good leader. There were times the team got confused on different priorities due to some external random thoughts. Ryan stood up and voiced his opinion, convinced me to get senior leadership support, and corrected courses to allow the team to finally deliver the product.
I would love to have Ryan work for me again :)" and "Ryan is an excellent engineering leader with a solid track record of shipping. I’d also add that the products he has worked on are highly innovative and groundbreaking and they are not easy to build. Consider, for example, the Skype Translator… amazing mix of AI and engineering.
Ryan is a gifted manager who can easily scales. In fact, I consider him more of Director of Engineering as he is managing multiple teams and projects. Ryan can solve any issues that his team is having with ease. Things run smoothly because he is very thoughtful about planning and distributing work. People in Ryan’s team are always very happy, and projects get shipped.
Ryan is also very good technical architect. He has a lot of hardcore experience and has good intuition. I highly value his opinion and ideas as do many other senior leaders.
I have worked with Ryan for 4 years in AI & Computer Vision and have been very impressed with his abilities as an engineering leader. We have worked on some very hard problems together.
I would love to work with Ryan again… and will be one of the first people I’d call on for building a new project or team."
