Further, I have trained my German Shepherd, Neiko, as a wilderness search dog. We were successfully validated by the RCMP PDS program and became a K9 SAR team, as recognized by the BC Search Dog Association (one of <17 teams in the Province, at that time- now retired). As an Outdoor/Adventure lawyer, I represent companies and individuals in all aspects of that industry, from guides/adventure tourism companies and recreational clubs/organizations (anything from highly specific Crown tenure issues to general corporate matters to liability waivers / risk management advice to contractual agreements) to gear/equipment manufacturers (regulatory advice, product liability concerns, commercial litigation, and anything in between) to ski hills (risk mitigation, environmental issues) to retailers. I understand the industry because that is how I spend my time outside of the office.In the remainder of my work life, I practice insurance defense litigation as a trial and appellate lawyer (numerous cases before the BC Supreme Court, a few appears with the BC Court of Appeal, and the leading case in Canada before the Supreme Court of Canada on tort law causation [Clements v. Clements, 2012 SCC 32]), as well as in fields spanning complex commercial disputes, health law (I chose to pursue law over admission offers from both medical school and graduate-level health care management), environmental law, and of course all facets of outdoor/adventure law.

I was a Senior Counsel at MLT Aikins, where I led the Outdoor/Adventure legal practice group - the first of its kind in Canada - and chaired the litigation group of the Vancouver office.
