As part of an ongoing interaction with newer military veterans over a number of years, several of the Founders of Citadel Canine have become acutely aware of the tremendous value of therapy dogs as this relates to the treatment of new veterans suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) challenges. As dog lovers, we have also been personally aware of the important role that these special animals can play in the lives of their owners, provided that the animals are well bred and trained, and in turn well treated by their new owners.The current literature is rich concerning the value of therapy dogs, and this method of therapeutic assistance is gaining ground as large numbers of new veterans return home from very challenging circumstances in South West Asia. Many of these veterans are suffering from varying degrees of PTSD, and therapy dogs are part of the solution for their treatment.Citadel Canine fully intends to address these issues in a professional and business-like manner. Working with dog training and breeding professionals, our Society will create a sound, adequately funded organization that can produce the very best therapy dogs, deliver them to end-users or sponsors at a reasonable cost, and in a manner that is fully acceptable to agencies making the prescriptive decision that a therapy dog will form a part of a patient’s treatment package. Utilizing our individual organizational and fund raising strengths, and our management experiences, we will create the organization that can best ensure the delivery of the very best in therapy dogs.Citadel Therapy Canine Society is incorporated as a not-for profit Society, under the laws of British Columbia
