Electrical Engineer (Substation Plant Maintenance Management & Delivery)Northern Ireland Electricity Jul 2014 - Jul 2015Ballymena, Northern IrelandMy primary responsibility as an Electrical Engineer in the Substation Plant Maintenance division is to assist with the development and management of the annual plant maintenance programme for the full Transmission and Distribution Systems. This involves working closely with other related sections across the company to ensure that every asset is fully maintained within their designated maintenance frequencies and to ensure the every maintenance procedure can be carried out effectively in terms of cost, manpower and access to the Transmission and Distribution Systems in terms of outages. To facilitate the smooth running of this complex work programme, I have become one of the custodians of NIE’s primary asset register and work delivery enterprise software platform. It is therefore my responsibility to ensure that the information contained within this system is accurate and consistent to reflect what assets we have across our network.Aside from my primary role, I am also working towards gaining Senior Authorisation under the NIE Safety Rules for the full 275kV and 110kV Transmission System. I have spent the last twelve months studying the finer detail of the NIE Electrical & Mechanical Safety Rules. I have gained a broad knowledge of the many different plant and overhead line protection schemes in place across the Transmission System and I am progressing with my overall training by operating different types of HV and LV switchgear and issuing Safety Documents under the supervision and direction of my Senior Authorised colleagues. -
