From a young age I was interested in politics and wondered how I could change the world to help the impoverished. When I left home I found myself impoverished, employed as a landscape laborer for $6 an hour, living in an unheated room on the rainy northern California coast. With no lust to take on student loan debt I returned home to live with my Mother, a postal worker with a large mortgage and an injured spinal disk. My brother and I began farming a vacant lot on Lincoln St. in Ashland. Forced to leave the space by my landlords who objected to the smell of organic compost, we purchased a piece of land, with an owner carry mortgage. From this our base my brother and I battle the society of self interest and indifference. We host WWOFERs, and train them in hard work and revolutionary values. My wife Kristin is a special education teacher who sees the effects of poverty daily in her classroom.
