Working as the Traffic Planner/Scheduler and Outbound Traffic Manager for Cooper Tire and Rubber requires me to create shipments from the deliveries given to me by the sales team, while also creating shipments from the inventory in our warehouse. I then communicate with various carriers to set up carrying the inventory shipments, via email and phone calls and base the choice of carrier on the cost negotiations that are completed yearly. Further, my responsibilities include monitoring inventory to create shipments and coordinate with the inventory manager and warehouse manager to keep lines of communication clear on current inventory. When required, after sending ETAs daily, I communicate with carriers to ensure solid and efficient rotation of the shipments available to my office. Beyond those daily responsibilities, I then communicate with shift supervisors and other staff members when shipments will be completed, in order to communicate these details back to the carrier, then field questions via email and phone calls from carriers on when the shipments will arrive and/or the status of the shipment. My duties then require me to progress monitor weekly inventory metrics to track the age of the products to be shipped. From there, I assess what can be shipped before creating waves to move the product from our warehouse inventory to the customer in a timely manner. Beyond these daily and weekly responsibilities, I also maintain and manage the shipment seal log, as the only person in our office to have access to the seal key, matching the seal key number to the seal shipment for smooth tracking.
