I’m Ryan Oden and I currently live in North Alabama with my wife. I’m an Auburn University - Poultry Science Production graduate from the Class of 2020. I grew up in an area of North Alabama deeply rooted in commercial poultry production, agriculture, and construction. With agriculture being so big in my area I also grew to enjoy wildlife, land management and conservation. I worked on a friend’s family poultry and produce farm during my high school years which fed my drive to pursue an education in agriculture, but more specifically poultry. While going to college I worked for an electrical company wiring apartments and houses all across AL, GA, and TN to financially support my college career. While at Auburn I was given the opportunity to intern with a Tyson Foods Inc. facility in West-Central Missouri. A few years later, while approaching graduation, I was invited back to that facility as a supervisor. I married my now wife and moved up there to begin my professional career in food manufacturing. I successfully served as a supervisor for just shy of two years before receiving a promotion back home in Alabama with another Tyson Foods Inc. facility. That promotion is my current role as a General Production Manager. As a General Production Manager for Tyson Foods Inc. keeping the people and food safe are always my top priority. While pushing the Safety First culture I also manage quality, labor, cost, resource usage, and inventory for my department and other departments as needed. In my time with Tyson Foods Inc. I have been able to help increase efficiency and quality, while lowering costs and downtime, by winning with my direct team and support groups. My end goal is to impact the people I work with in a positive way by supporting and growing them into successful individuals and leaders. I am a believer in the mindset that leaders create culture and influence moral. When asked “What do you think are characteristics of good leaders?” my response is “Understanding and support”. Leaders and teams alike must understand goals/initiatives and support each other in the way to achieving success. I empower my team to make decisions about running their respective business unit efficiently and delegate tasks as needed based on those two words.
