Managing the development of next generation orthopedic implants

Joined the NuVasive Team through NuVasive's acquisition of Vertera Spine

Design and develop medical devices for a start-up focused on providing unique orthopedic surgery solutions utilizing novel materials. Duties include:-Working with surgeon KOL's to develop unique clinical solutions-Generating CAD models and drawings for manufacturing, using GD&T as necessary-Prototyping and testing new design ideas with FEA tools and in-house mechanical testing equipment, creating and performing novel test protocols as well as ASTM standard testing-Applying advanced materials science knowledge to develop products with novel metal alloys-Working closely with internal and external manufacturing staff to ensure that designs can be easily manufactured and inspected

• Design implants and instruments for use in spine surgery. Work includes: design prototyping, validation testing including cadaveric studies, technical report writing, coordinating manufacturing operations, and supporting product management through clinical engagement opportunities.• Lead a new product development project and coordinate a multi-functional team including members from quality, regulatory, operations, and marketing.• Interact with surgeon advisors and sales/marketing personnel to provide product support and also identify potential new products and modifications to existing products.• Work to ensure projects meet all QSR, MDD, and CMDD requirements.

• Conducted graduate research on a variety of projects; thesis work focused on theoretical and numerical analysis of heat transport through soft tissue• Taught multiple courses for the Department of Biomedical Engineering, also aided in new course development for the program.• Met with prospective students and gave biomedical engineering laboratory tours to students and families.

• Aided in the design and testing of medical devices including a mechanical thrombectomy device and a retinal stent. • Conducted background research and bench-top testing to support device design and marketing initiatives. • Handled animal blood samples and other biologics while conducting research to mechanically characterize blood clots.• Participated in manufacturing process development and clean room manufacturing.
