Event Manager And Bartender
I worked as a bartender and support for special events, then was promoted to Event Manager in February 2018. My primary responsibilities included being point of contact for all bar-related issues, transporting all equipment and alcohol to and from event, coordinating event timeline with catering manager and event planner, delegating tasks to staff members, setting up registers, distributing and collecting money for cash-bar events, ensuring client satisfaction, and adapting to any changes requested.I have managed events upwards of 400 guests and 20 staff members, from downtown Denver to as far away as Lake George and Camp Hale. During this time, I honed my communication, leadership, and teamwork skills. I cultivated trust and good relations with both venue managers and event planners, and was spoken highly of as a kind, dependable manager in a number of reviews from both clients and venues.
Graduate Student Assistant
I rotated through the following labs over the course of my first year:- Dr. Lique Coolen - neurobiology of reward and motivation- Dr. Mike Lehman - reproductive neuroendocrinology- Dr. Paul J. May - anatomical and physiological study of gaze control- Dr. Donna Platt - pharmacological and neurogenetic mechanisms of alcohol abuse- Dr. James Rowlett - pharmacological and behavioral mechanisms of benzodiazepine abuse- Dr. Douglas Vetter - physical interaction and biological consequence of sound on the inner ear- Dr. Wu Zhou - neurophysiology of vestibular function after traumatic brain injuryI settled under the mentorship of both Dr. Vetter and Dr. Zhou for my dissertation research, which combined ongoing projects in both labs. I investigated a corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF) peptide-based signaling system within the vestibular end organs and their afferent neurons, as well as the potential roles this system may have. During this time, I learned to manage my time as all my experiments followed rigid protocols with specific time-courses. I balanced my time in the lab with attending classes, presenting and writing regularly about my research, and training new lab members and students techniques.
Undergraduate Research Assistant
I worked in Dr. Kenneth Sufka's psychopharmacology lab, running drug screening experiments utilizing his chick anxiety-depression continuum model, as well as rodent experiments with hot plate, elevated plus maze, rotor-rod, forced swim, conditioned-place preference, and light/dark boxes. I also worked in the lab while in collaboration with the Natural Products Research Center to discover natural compounds to treat cisplatin-induced neuropathy in mice.I was chosen alongside two other research assistants to coordinate and run experiments to test the efficacy of cannabinoid-based antidepressants using the chick anxiety-depression continuum model. This experience helped develop my leadership and organizational skills.
