About Ryan Redhead
Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/@Eng_FundamentalsI am a curious person with a desire to learn as much as I can. I want to use my mechanical engineering and coding background to solve interesting problems. I have completed 2 internships during my education which were at General Electric Aerospace and the NYC Department of Buildings. I also worked at a tool rental/ repair store along with doing energy forecasting research. I have a great interest in the application of thermal fluids, solid mechanics, and vibrations pertaining to machine design. I have also worked in the power tool rental and repair businesses throughout my education and have gotten the opportunity to see inside thousands of electric motors, small engines, and power tools in general, giving me insight into the very interesting designs used to complete tasks pertaining to construction. I am in the process of developing a machine learning model to forecast energy in urban environments. The inputs into the model are the land surface temperature and land cover zone (LCZ) which is used in the heat equation at two adjacent time increments to get a calculated heat flux which is compared to the AC usage data for that time period. In an urban environment a large portion of the dynamic electricity load is due to the ac usage which is why we compare with the ac usage parameter. This project has allowed me to increase my coding knowledge and I feel very comfortable scripting in MATLAB and Python.

Edison Engineer
Current
Research Assistant
I write MATLAB scripts to perform data analysis on very large data sets. Data analysis includes extraction from NET CDF files for data points contained in NYC using shape files , LCZ identification using pixel color and reference image, creating plots to show some statistical value (man/min/median) for a selected month, and creating videos to visualize Heat Flux as time advances. I have created many scripts to automate data processing due to the volume of data I deal with regularly. I am in the process of creating a machine learning model which takes in land surface temperature along with LCZ information and can predict the surface Heat Flux (using the heat equation) that can be related to energy consumption. Freely available satellite data can be used to make predictions or forecast energy demand for a few days into the future.
Power Tool Manager / Mechanic
I troubleshoot to perform maintenance/repairs on power tools with AC brushed motors, single-phase induction motors,2-stroke and 4-stroke engines. In this position I have gained design insight by seeing the inside if 1000’s of power tools. It has been useful seeing present day mechanisms used in machines to accomplish a task. I currently have a leadership role which entails training new and guiding present employees. I also get to practice technical communication and teamwork skills to convey information to customers and coworkers.
Jet Engine Design (Hot Section)
Learn about overall Jet Engine and work within hot section of the GE9X engine on hardware like the fuel nozzle injector, inner combustor liner, piston ring housing, and piston ring seal. The work included performing a direct disposition on the fuel nozzle to reduce incoming MRB, tolerance stack ups, data analysis, and piston ring seal redesign calculation verification.
