The Seattle Aquarium inspires conservation of the marine environment though its work as one of the largest North American aquariums. The Aquarium is owned by the City of Seattle and operated by a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization with a 45 person board of directors.Responsible for accounting, finance, IT, legal, administrative and admissions functions of the Seattle Aquarium. Shared management of food and gift concessions partnerships. Direct supervision of four individuals and overall departmental staff level of sixteen including seasonal fluctuations.Acting director of facilities on two occasions ('14 & '16) responsible for engineering, maintenance and safety/security departments with a combined staff of thirteen.I led the use of a novel financing approach combining tenant-improvement with private debt to underpin the first capital improvement project in the Aquarium's history which resulted in 18,000 additional square feet of exhibit area, new food and gift concessions and main entrance located directly on Alaskan Way. I played a key role in implementing the first-ever 20 year operating agreement between the nonprofit and the City of Seattle based on key learnings from the Woodland Park Zoo agreement. Successfully addressed an unfair tax matter with the Department of Revenue until the underlying statute is amended by the state legislature.
