Research Technician- Involved in a two month field season in Tanzania, Africa, with the Lake Tanganyika Ecosystem Project. Research included; measuring benthic primary production and nitrogen fixation, assessing food web dynamics, indentifying fish, fish collection(gill nets), conducting video surveys, collecting algae, measuring fish metabolism, weighing and measuring fish, and determining fish excretion rates.- Responsible for all phosphorus analysis done in the lab and managed all the data.- Managed three undergraduates, and assisted three graduate students with their thesis projects.

Undergraduate research assistant/independent researcher- I was independently responsible for all particulate and soluble reactive phosphorus analysis and data entry in the lab. - Developed methods for particulate phosphorus using a 96 well plate reader. The phosphorus was analyzed using the acid molybdate method. - Measured primary production of periphyton ex-situ via bulk oxygen exchange. - Designed and maintained aquarium experiments, which included construction, plumbing, and electrical components.

Tanzania

Research Experience for an Undergraduate (REU), Lake Tanganyika Ecosystem Project - Part of a team of seven researches that was stationed in Kigoma, Tanzania for 9 weeks. The primary goals of the research were to measure benthic primary production and nutrient cycling of Lake Tanganyika. - All underwater sampling was done with the use of SCUBA from a small boat- I was responsible for collecting and analyzing fish fecal matter for phosphorus. - Participated in every aspect of the research, including rugosity, benthic primary production, fish excretion, invertebrate collection, and algal scrubs for CNP and stable isotope analysis.
