Responsible for providing administrative and scientific leadership to the Mass General Brigham Institutional Biosafety Committee, a regulatory compliance committee that reviews, approves, and monitors Biosafety activity in the Partners research hospitals: MGH, BWH, MEE, McLean and Spaulding. Provide guidance and interpretation of biosafety regulations to Mass General Brigham and hospital research and compliance leadership, in addition to working with the hospital Biosafety Officers (BSO) on a system-wide, comprehensive biological safety program that meets all federal, state and local environmental, health, and safety regulations along with compliance requirements for NIH OBA, CDC/APHIS, and other sponsoring agency requirements.

Manage the Tufts University Biosafety Program including a staff of three Biosafety Professionals that include two Biosafety Officers and one Biosafety Scientist. The Biosafety Program includes the following key areas. - Ensure that all biological hazardous materials at Tufts University are registered with the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC). - Ensure that all Tufts Staff, Faculty, and students working receive the appropriate biosafety training. - Ensure that all laboratory space is audited annually for compliance with federal, state, local, and University policies for biosafety. Responsible for providing technical and regulatory advice in addition to training and audit services in the area of biological safety to the Tufts community, specifically the BSL-3/ABSL-3 New England Regional Biosafety laboratory and the BSL-3/ABSL-3 Arnold 8 Biosafety Laboratory. Serve on two IBC to provide technical and safety expertise during the review of biohazardous material registrations and provide explanatory information for the Chairman and members of the IBC.Coordinate actions with NIH Office of Biotechnology Activities, CDC Division of Select Agents and Toxins, OSHA, the Town of Grafton, the Boston Public Health Commission, and maintain paper and electronic files of all such agency communications.Organize and deliver biological safety training programs at Tufts. Deliver lectures, prepare web based programs, and other effective methods of instruction being sensitive to the languages of the staff and students. Working with Boston Biosafety Officers, maintain Biological Safety website in a current and complete manner.Author training and other information materials on all aspects of biological safety. Assist Principal Investigators in developing, and when necessary, implementing exposure response plans including oversight of emergency responses in collaboration with laboratory staff and the Tufts Emergency Planning Coordinator.

Where applicable, prepare administrative approval documents for principal investigators and explanatory information for the Chairman and members of the IBC.Coordinate all actions with NIH Office of Biotechnology Activities, CDC Division of Select Agents and Toxins, OSHA, the Town of Grafton and maintain paper and electronic files of all such agency communications.Organize and deliver training programs including Biosafety in the Research Laboratory, Bloodborne Pathogens, Select Agents Regulations and Procedures, Biosafety for the IBC, Shipping Biological and Medical Materials. Deliver lectures, prepare web based programs, and other effective methods of instruction being sensitive to the languages of the staff and students. Working with Boston Biosafety Officers, maintain Biological Safety website in a current and complete manner.Author training and other information materials on all aspects of biological safety. Provide support for Animal Care and Use Research to the Office of General Council, Regulatory Compliance Office of the Department of Homeland Security Science and Technology DirectoratePerform documentation and on-site compliance reviews and inspections assessing Biological Safety, Biosecurity, and Incident Response at High Containment facilities working with Biological Select Agents and Toxins performing DHS-funded work.Assists DHS-funded performers in developing robust Biological Select Agent and Toxin programs with well organized and managed policies and procedures to ensure that they met all Federal regulations and mandates and employ best scientific practices.

Managed two projects that included the training and supervision of two graduate students and was responsible for setting goals and deadlines as well as evaluating student performance.Utilized the Chromosomal Conformation Capture Assay (3C) and three-Dimensional Fluorescent In-situ Hybridization (3D-FISH) to determined the role of nuclear position, locus conformation, and replication timing on the regulation of V(D)J recombination, allelic exclusion of Tcrb, and double stranded DNA break (DSB) repair.Determined the role of locus conformation and physical interactions between cis regulatory DNA elements on the regulation of V(D)J recombination and DSB repair of Tcra in developing thymocytes.Characterized a novel promoter by transfecting DNA sequences into a DN4 thymocyte cell lines and found a novel promoter in the Tcrd locus.Generated a cloning vector to insert targeted mutations into a ten kilobase region of the Tcra locus. The introduced mutations would help determine the role of distance and promoter positioning on secondary recombination events in developing thymocytes.Independently investigated, researched and then developed two key scientific techniques (3C and 3D FISH), gaining a fundamental understanding of the scientific principles and mastering the techniques from the ground up.

Provided Scientific and Technical support for the following projects in areas of bio-defense, chemical demilitarization, and first response to WMD.Immune Building Program for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA): Provided Technical Analysis and Program Support by analyzing data concerning the spread of biological pathogens through government buildings, managing the program’s website, and helping solicit bids for the program.Special Operations Command (SOCOM): Provided technical support by analyzing and critiquing countermeasures against bio-terrorism requiring a comprehensive understanding contamination avoidance principles.Aberdeen Proving Grounds: Provided logistic support for public outreach programs for the demilitarization of chemical nerve agents.Department of Defense (DoD): Provided technical support by generating after action reports evaluating the state of first responders in the 100 largest US cities.Department of Defense Office of the Secretary: Provided scientific and technical support by assessing state-of-the-art and emerging biotechnology applications for novel uses to meet logistical; medical; and chemical and biological defense requirements for the DoD.Booz Allen Hamilton: Helped developed an internal Bayesian mathematical model used to identify biological attacks and emerging epidemics in major US cities.

Participated in the collection, cataloging, storage, and analysis of biological specimens from patients with SLE, Rheumatoid Arthritis, and Psoriatic Arthritis.Analyzed the effector response of monocytes stimulated with Th1 cytokines.Analyzed endothelial activation and leukocyte effector function in patients with psoriatic arthritis in response IL-10 treatment.Analyzed chemokine production in response to chronic glomerulonephritides.Helped define and characterize a family of dominantly inherited autoinflammatory syndromes due to mutations in the gene encoding Tumor Necrosis Factor Receptor 1.

Helped develop a model system to test a novel treatment for various pathogenic diseases including Ebola, Marburg, Dengue, and Malaria.Analyzed the ability of bi-specific monoclonal antibody complexes to facilitate a prototype particulate pathogen to bind to erythrocytes via complement receptor 1 and subsequently be cleared
