My role as a P.E. summer student with Agrium involved assisting senior operators with plant operation duties in assigned work area and throughout the plant to provide smooth and efficient operation. I completed job specific training/ progression in less than allotted time. Ensign Energy Services is a leader in oilfield services with 480+ rigs, serving customers in N. and S. America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and the APAC region.My role involved assisting to rig-up, nipple-up, tear out and rig maintenance while drilling. This included preparing the drilling floor prior to pipe trip, pipe connections, and well surveys. I operated rig equipment, as well as handling and measuring tubular goods. With additional leadership responsibilities, I aided in training and supervising of up to five junior staff and assumed a proactive part in improving processes. Keenly focused on safety, I also played a key role in correcting unsafe practices and hazards.Process Improvement ✔I re-organized and re-structured the drilling rig parts and tool room, including aiding in the design and construction of parts storage cabinets. ✔By determining the cause and designing and suggesting installation of a proper support structure, I terminated continual “wash-outs” on high-pressure pump fittings. ✔By implementing a checklist system, I enabled the tracking and resourceful use of daily maintenance materials. ✔I developed a faster procedure for processing and measuring production casing.Safety ✔By finding and calling attention to an incorrectly attached high-pressure fluid line, I averted safety accidents. ✔I developed a daily preventative maintenance checklist to promote equipment and machinery safety and longevity. ✔I was recognized with Safety Awards in two consecutive years for 365 days free of injuries and incidents.Performance ✔As one of only ten workers on a major project to drill 250 wells for Encana, I aided in completing the project 57% ahead of schedule and approximately $31M under budget. ✔Contributing to rig recertification, I collaborated to deconstruct and refit the entire drilling rig. ✔I earned a promotion to Floor Hand from Lease Hand after only two weeks on the job.
