Ryan Shaw is a 2L at the University of Michigan Law School. He most recently worked as a Summer Associate at DLA Piper in Santiago, Chile.Previously, Ryan served as Special Assistant to the Under Secretary of Defense (Comptroller)/CFO, where he provided strategic, budgetary, legislative, and administrative assistance to OUSD(C) senior leadership. Prior to DoD, Ryan worked on a number of political campaigns. As Campaign Manager for Virginia House of Delegates candidate Rev. Linwood T. Blizzard II, he managed day-to-day operations, fundraising, voter contact, and media in the 99th House District, which covers Virginia’s Northern Neck region. As a Regional Organizing Director on the Biden for President and Jon Ossoff for U.S. Senate campaigns in 2020, he managed more than 60 community organizers in North Carolina and Georgia. Ryan started on the Biden campaign as a Field Organizer during the 2020 New Hampshire primary and subsequently worked on presidential primaries in Nevada, South Carolina, Michigan, and Ohio.An experienced political staffer with a life-long passion for national security and global affairs, Ryan began his career as an undergraduate, where he interned for the Democratic Party of Virginia and State Senator Ghazala Hashmi’s 2019 campaign. Sen. Hashmi became the first Muslim woman elected to the state’s legislature after flipping the 10th Senate district in the Richmond suburbs, securing a Democratic majority. Born and raised in Seattle, Washington, he earned a B.A. in Philosophy, Politics, Economics, and Law (PPEL) with a minor in Latin American, Latino, and Iberian Studies from the University of Richmond, where he played Division 1 baseball. Ryan speaks Spanish and enjoys traveling to new countries, running, and reading.
