After 8 months at PLC, I was honored for my role to be expanded to include oversight over the Project Engineering team. I am happy to serve as the technical lead, mentor, and manager for a multidiscipline team including process, mechanical, civil, and electrical engineers.
Process Engineering Director
I joined the PLC team in June, 2023 as the Process Engineering Director. In this role, my focus has been on leading and supporting the process engineering team within PLC as we execute complex industrial engineering and construction projects. I have also assisted the team by serving as project manager on multidiscipline EPC and engineering projects, including a greenfield 50 MMSCFD natural gas compressor station in west TX and brownfield renewable natural gas projects.

I was promoted from the role of lead/senior process engineer to project manager at ZAP in 2017 after serving as a process engineer for four years at the company. In 2020 I was promoted to the rank of senior project manager.As a project manager, I am responsible for the success of a multidiscipline (mechanical, chemical/process, electrical, I&C/automation, civil/structural, procurement, drafting/design) team executing engineering and construction projects. My duties include leading client communication, managing interfaces between different technical and construction disciplines, deliverable QA/QC, engineering support as needed, budget and schedule management, and anything else within my power to ensure ZAP meets our project commitments.Small sample of my projects: Oil Stabilization Plants Built two 60,000 BPD oil treating facilities in west TX. Project included FEED/conceptual/feasibility analysis, detailed design & engineering, construction support, and startup support. Major process units included two 90,000 gallon inlet surge vessels, two 60,000 gallon NGL product surge vessels, inlet heating by fired glycol bath heaters, feed/product heat exchange, oil distillation, overhead compression, oil product cooling using 450 RT commercial chillers and glycol cooling loops (pumps/expansion tanks), NGL stabilization, power distribution, and other site utilities (instrument air, fuel gas, methanol injection). I also led optimization and expansion projects to these sites following startup, including expansion of one site to 120,000 BPD throughput.Geothermal Power Plant Clarifier FEEDCompleted engineering and design FEED activities to define the scope for the construction of a new clarifier facility to remove solids and condition 25,000 GPM of geothermal brine and then inject the product brine back into the earth. As of this writing, FEED engineering has been completed and I am supporting the detailed design and engineering phase of this project.
Process Engineer
I began my employment at ZAP Engineering as an Engineer I and was gradually promoted to the rank of Engineer II, Engineer III, and Engineer IV where I also acted as a lead process engineer responsible for overseeing the work of junior process engineers. In 2017, I was promoted again, this time to become a Project Manager.While a process engineer, my duties included process simulations/heat and material balances, PFD/P&ID development, equipment and instrument specification/selection, controls narrative and cause & effect (C&E) development, and other duties to ensure successful completion of engineering and construction activities within the energy industry.Major projects executed in this time that I served as the lead process engineer for include the following.Detailed engineering of a 10 MMSCFD natural gas GSP cryo plant located in the Permian Basin. Included inlet liquids stabilization, nitrogen removal unit (NRU), NRU compression, hot oil, stabilized product storage/truck loadout/pipeline pumps, and NGL storage/pipeline pumps.Detailed engineering of a 10,000 bpd crude oil facility in the Bakken. Facility included three-phase separation, heater treating, vapor recovery, storage in API 12F tanks, truck loadout, and pipeline pump LACT skids.FEL-2 cost estimate, feasibility analysis, and conceptual development of a modular well pad facility design for widespread client implementation in northern Colorado. Debottlenecking analysis to increase Wyoming refrigeration gas plant throughput. Completed installation of new heat exchanger, overhead suction scrubber, H2S removal beds, and product recycle pumps to improve plant performance. Completed PSV and Flare Study for cryo gas plant located in New Mexico, which contained over 200 PSVs and two flare systems. Auxiliary systems at the plant included Amine Treating, Oil Stabilization, Glycol Dehydration, and Acid Gas Injection.
Engineer
I performed engineering duties to support capital projects for the Cargill corn biorefinery in Blair, NE. The plant processed 300,000 bushels of corn per day to produce corn oil, ethanol, high fructose corn syrup, erythritol, gluten for animal feed, among other products.My engineering duties included process feasibility and optimization analysis, performing heat and material balances, project cost estimation, P&ID development, material selection, instrument sizing and specification, development of construction work packages, controls narrative updates, and project management for small capital projects.While at the plant, I was the project engineer responsible for the following projects.I evaluated the potential to recover more heat by modifying the process flow through the plant CHX (condensing heat exchanger) and boiler feed/product plate and frame exchanger to be in parallel rather than in series. Once process feasibility was confirmed, I estimated the project total installed cost and obtained AFE approval. I led the project execution phase by updating P&IDs, purchasing pipe, valves, fittings, new flow control valve, and new coriolis flow meter, developing mechanical and EI&C contractor scope packages, coordinating construction scope with plant operations (i.e. coordinating tie ins and other impacts to operations), commissioning, and start-up.I led a project to evaluate fouling of cooling water exchangers onsite and eventually determined the culprit to be bacteria. I conducted a pilot test of biocide injection into the cooling water system to reduce exchanger fouling. The biocide to be successful at restoring exchanger performance to clean conditions (exchanger pressure drops and overall heat transfer coefficients were calculated to demonstrate success).Other projects included wastewater plant HVAC reliability studies (with respect to airborne contaminants and corrosive material) and debottlenecking study for effluent underground piping system.
Research Assistant
While in college, I served as a research assistant in the John Falconer research group. Responsibilities and tasks are summarized below.- Worked independently to characterize zeolite membranes and recommend possible improvements in membrane synthesis.- Troubleshoot to identify and fix technical experimental issues.- Presented findings/conclusions at group meetings to receive feedback from professors, post-doctoral researchers, and other members of group.- Performed high pressure (>4.6 MPa) separations of CO2 from CH4 via zeolite membranes to model industrial natural gas separations, using a gas chromatograph to measure mixture compostions.- Calculated the pore size distribution of MFI membranes using permporometry.- Performed sophisticated statistical analyses (ANOVA, F testing, t testing, etc.) using Excel, Minitab, and Matlab.- Prepared scientific papers and researched pertinent scientific literature.
