Developing accessible software to be used within the electrical engineering sector.

My focus is to carry out extensive power system studies for renewable and non-renewable generation projects, with an emphasis on meeting Grid Code and ENA ER G99 compliance standards.Studies actively carrying out include:- Reactive power capability studies;- Load flow studies;- Short-circuit studies;- P28 studies;- G5/5 studies;- Protection coordination studies;- Cable sizing studies;- Dynamic studies.

My experience and detailed knowledge of the power industry have allowed me to become efficiently work as a project manager.I've managed projects for both DNO and private purposes, ranging from substations at 11kV and 33kV for the renewable (wind, solar, biomass) and STOR industries and up to 132kV battery storage and demand sites costing in excess of £3million.I have to carry out the following tasks on a regular basis:- Assist in developing systems to streamline the project management process, followed by implementing and training colleagues;- Work with the tendering engineers to ensure quotations include all required elements to correctly price the works;- Negotiate contract terms and payment milestones with customers;- Maintain a good relationship, and communicate regularly with peers, suppliers, customers and DNOs;- Specify equipment, request quotations and order the appropriate piece of equipment;- Using AutoCAD to draw, amend and scale technical drawings;- Arrange for long lead time items to be acquired in relation to the project timeline;- Plan, follow and adjust a programme of works for each job using MS Project;- Efficiently select and prepare operatives and subcontractors to work on each project in order to meet deadlines;- Negotiate variations with customers;- Prepare O&M manuals for each job to be handed over to the customer;- Apply for and chase payments from customers.In addition to my role as project manager, I am very technologically proficient and appointed with looking after our phone, computer and software systems, and collaborate with our external IT support company whenever required.

I carried out jobs from the initial pricing stages up until completion. This position required that I was highly organised, able to arrange a workforce and materials, acquire long lead-time items and negotiate any alterations. I also had to remain in continuous communication with peers, management, customers and suppliers. I was involved in the tendering, contract review, procurement, customer liaison, planning and implementation of a project through to O&M manuals on completion of the project. I was involved in managing projects ranging from LV to 66kV.This position was office based and required a lot of work within Microsoft Office as well as AutoCAD. I continued my higher education while in this position, as not only the experience previously acquired, but also technical knowledge proved extremely valuable.Recent project types have included 33kV wind farms, 11kV biomass processing plants, 11kV and 33kV substations and most recently I was involved in a 66kV project.After this period of work I left for a number of months to go traveling.

This was my primary role throughout my apprenticeship. My training was of a dual role nature and I was expected to learn all aspects of the business. Switchgear fitting involved low voltage through to 33,000V GIS equipment, transformers up to 30MVA, HV and LV bus bar trunking and containment. Testing of equipment was also part of my duties including IR, AC flash, ducter and current injection testing. My cable jointing training and experience covered LV to 33kV jointing. I received training from Raychem/Tyco, 3M and Shrink Polymer Systems on joints and terminations up to 33,000V.To become more proficient within this role, I found it important to further myself in learning the technical, physical and electrical properties of all components and procedures. In this role I was required to communicate with supervisors, and at times management from our customers on site.
