Graduate Research Assistant

University Of South Carolina- Dept. Of Civil And Environmental Engineering

Master's Thesis: Analyzed the effect of curing time and curing stress on cement-improved and cement-fiber-improved soils by conducting several UCS, Consolidation, and Triaxial Tests.Dissertation: Analyzed the effect of a proprietary chemical admixture on a local borrow soil and three soils from Indonesia for use as surface layer of rural unpaved roads and airfield by conducting UCS and CBR tests. Determined optimum dosage rate for “short-term” improvement in mechanical properties of treated low-, medium-, and high-plasticity clays, based on measured behavior in confined and unconfined compression. Assessed the volumetric stability of optimized, treated soil mixtures in response to environmental stresses introduced through wet-dry cycling.Reviewed and developed successful alternative teaching technique (EFFECTs) used for undergraduate geotechnical lab course with a focus on shear strength and ground improvement.SCFLoods Project (2015-2016): Completed post-flood reconnaissance study aimed to collect perishable data from sites where pipe culverts and dams failed and roadways were washed out. The study included collection of extensive photographic evidence and documentation of descriptive information related to the failure; collection of soil samples, and field and laboratory geotechnical tests. SCDOT Deep Soil Test Boring to Determine Shear Wave Velocities across SC (Summer 2017): Supervised undergraduate students during the completion of soil identification through index testing for sampled soilsSCDOT Development of Pavement Design and Investigation Strategies for Non-Interstate Routes (Summer 2017): Completed survey of state DOTs, Assisted with traffic data collection
