For over a decade, I worked as a healthcare worker (HCW) in an all-women’s secure psychiatric hospital, gaining extensive experience in mental health care within a highly specialized and challenging environment. My role centered around providing direct care and support to women experiencing severe psychiatric conditions, often in conjunction with complex trauma histories. This required an adaptable approach, rooted in empathy, resilience, and a deep understanding of mental health.Working closely with multidisciplinary teams of psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, and social workers, I helped deliver individualized treatment plans aimed at promoting recovery, reducing distress, and managing behavioral crises. I developed strong communication and conflict resolution skills, as well as the ability to work under pressure, ensuring the safety and well-being of both patients and staff in a high-risk setting.Part of my role involved facilitating therapeutic activities designed to promote coping skills, emotional regulation, and social interaction. I supported patients through daily routines and provided practical assistance, building trust and rapport with individuals who often presented with high levels of vulnerability and mistrust. Over time, I became adept at recognizing behavioral patterns, de-escalating volatile situations, and contributing to comprehensive care planning.My responsibilities also extended to maintaining detailed documentation, liaising with families.
