Manage all aspects of the company's intellectual property portfolio, including driving global patent strategy; overseeing day to day patent preparation, filing, prosecution, and licensing; and managing litigation via outside counsel. Work cross-functionally with R&D and outside counsel to identify, develop, and protect new IP opportunities. Monitor and analyze competitive IP. Advise and educate on IP-related matters. Assist in supporting other business activities, such as contract negotiations, publication reviews, competitive intelligence, and due diligence support. Advise R&D and business colleagues on IP-related matters.

Ryan Stockett is involved in patent preparation and prosecution matters. He works with automotive and engine technology, including electric drives; autonomous guidance; traffic management; vehicular communications; drivetrains; emissions control; fuel systems, including fuel cells; turbine and piston-driven engine components, including gasoline, diesel, and gaseous fuel powered; hydraulic implements; cooling systems; lubrication; materials; braking; and fatigue monitoring. Mr. Stockett has patent experience with 3D printing, waste management, key duplication, manufacturing systems, tool retention systems, and cryogenic pumping. He is relied upon as a technical expert in the field of automotive engineering. Mr. Stockett is also involved in project and personnel management. He manages teams of technical specialists, patent agents, student associates, and attorneys. He is responsible for training, work distribution, supervisory review of work product, and team quotas regarding throughput and quality. In addition, he facilitates in-house invention generation and capture sessions involving client engineers and attorneys. Prior to joining Finnegan, Mr. Stockett was a performance and design engineer for multiple product lines of engines and construction vehicles at Caterpillar Inc., where he was responsible for initiatives from new product development to current product problem resolution. He designed engine systems, diagnosed warranty problems, developed and implemented performance-enhancing test plans, and instituted hardware and software changes that improved engine control, reliability, and performance. He was a core team member for Caterpillar's Six Sigma projects.
