My name is Ryan Streem and I am a freshman at The Ohio State University. I am studying biomedical engineering and I also intend to complete a minor in political science. I am from Solon, Ohio, located just outside of Cleveland.Starting in the fall of 2022, I began working as a busser at Pub Frato, a gastropub in Chagrin Falls, Ohio. I am responsible for preparing tables for incoming guests and cleaning used dishes, glasses, and silverware. I occasionally assist as a host to welcome guests and ensure they are seated quickly and without issue. My other tasks include restocking supplies and products to maintain organization behind the bar. I have also spent recent summers working as a lifeguard and camp counselor. My experiences in the hospitality industry have significantly improved my understanding of client relationship management. I've learned new strategies to problem-solve and interact with guests in a professional manner to provide the best customer experience I can. Most importantly, I've been able to strengthen my communication skillset in these environments by working with a diverse group of peers and responding to guests to find solutions. During my first semester at Ohio State I worked with a team of engineering students to code a math game for elementary school students. We then developed a pitch for the game. In the following semester I worked with another design team to prototype a vibration-based alarm clock for potential users. Both of these projects provided me with a great introduction into what engineering development might look like in the future. I hope to enhance the skills I learned to prepare for a career in the service industry.In my free time I enjoy distance running, hiking, reading books, watching movies, and exploring new places.
