Feed and care for livestock, operate machinery, power tools, hand tools, and various jobs. Other tasks include but are not limited to showing and fitting cattle, administrating drugs and vaccines, following the grain markets, and helping with the record books. I also assist with the farm's Price Risk Management and Overall Profitability strategies. The partnership had been in the dairy industry for over a century until transitioning into a Beef Cow-Calf Operation in the spring of 2004.

I work for the Dairy Market News (DMN), which is a part of the Agricultural Marketing Services (AMS) branch of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) as a Dairy Market News Reporter. In my role, I specialize in the Central Region of the United States, where I report weekly on the following dairy products: butter, dry whey, animal feed whey, nonfat dry milk, dry buttermilk, and fluid milk and cream. The reports cover dairy product pricing (including the CME Group), market tone, production, demand, and supply. I also help produce the "National Dairy Market News" weekly report and maintain over 100 graphs for internal and external use. The national report includes all the various activity in the dairy market, ranging from the producer level to the processors, and on down to the retail of dairy products.

In my role with MARGINSMART I was responsible for the overall sales and marketing of the product. It included attending various national trade shows and conferences, managing the company website and social media, and taking care of all the advertising and marketing of our product. I also work directly with our customers through the entire sales process while providing them with excellent customer service. Lastly I produced a weekly newsletter that gave an overview of the dairy and grain industries along with products tips and insight.

I prepare and update financial statements for clients mostly in the dairy industry to show their profitability along with conducting research projects on market trends, industry benchmarks, and other topics in agriculture.

R.J. O’Brien Brokerage Training Internship. Learned the basics of how a clearing and brokerage firm works. We also went over current compliance issues faced by clearing houses. Toured the CBOT and CME Trading Floor and gained insight from various local Commodity Brokers.
