    Located on the UGA campus, Enterprise Information Technology Services (EITS) is responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of campus-wide technology solutions. Within EITS, the Systems Administration group is tasked with configuring and maintaining all Red Hat/CentOs Linux and Windows server environments and associated services. My role as a Principal within the Systems Administration group has generally been focused on upgrading and maintaining the UGA web hosting infrastructure. Duties include:♦ Primary architect and support engineer of a shared web hosting environment comprised of over six hundred web sites and heterogeneous content management platforms, to include: Drupal, ExpressionEngine, Wordpress, and all associated Apache httpd and MySQL/MariaDB database services and NFS storage technologies.♦ Primary support engineer of the UGA Linux/Apache/MySQL/PHP architecture that hosts the main campus web site, www.uga.edu.♦ Creation and management of SVN and git version control repositories for both internal EITS and external campus-wide clients.♦ Development, testing, and implementation of automated system configuration management routines using Puppet and Ansible. ♦ Research and development of DevOps procedures in conjunction with EITS developers, to include Openstack based internal cloud environments and Linux containerization via Docker.♦ Installation and configuration of Red Hat/CentOs Linux servers in a VMWare virtualized production environment. ♦ Provide assistance to team members and campus clients as needed with existing technologies, to include: version control systems (SVN, git), Perl, PHP, Java, MySQL/MariaDB, Apache httpd, and Tomcat.♦ Provide instruction and direction to junior administrators as needed, particularly in regards to EITS web technologies and hosting support issues.

    Upon first joining the team at EITS, my responsibilities were quite varied as the group was much larger and responsible for many more legacy technologies than it is today. Technologists were required to address a wide range of multi-platform challenges on a daily basis.     Funded by the National Health Institute and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the Kissinger Research Group maintains a compliment of six web sites and associated databases housing the genetic data of parasitic organisms. The research group is small but the goals of the project are aggressive, hence team members are required to function in multiple roles. Grant funding reductions eliminated my position with the group, but while there my participation on the team was diverse, to include:♦ Software development tasks in PERL and SQL specific to the creation of data pipelines to facilitate the bulk loading of bioinformatics data into Oracle databases.♦ Testing and execution of data pipelines, subsequently ensuring the integrity of new data stores, maintaining and updating data stores as new data becomes available from the scientific community.♦ Design, development, and implementation of a web-based interface for database scheduling of system status announcements across all project web sites.♦ Development, documentation, and distribution within the bioinformatics community of a PERL based software suite facilitating end user loading of bulk data gene data into MySQL and Oracle databases.♦ System administration tasks: creating user accounts, maintaining desktop and server hardware, and recommending desktop backup solutions
