I served as a research assistant to Profs. William (Terry) Fisher and Ruth Okediji. I performed a variety of functions including legal research and drafting/editing scholarly publications.

I served as a summer law clerk at the Office of Enforcement and Compliance Assurance, Monitoring Assistance and Media Programming Division in the Pesticides, Waste, and Toxics Branch. As a law clerk, I provided legal research and technical advice in areas such as pesticide use on cannabis under FIFRA, third party consent to enter private residences under TSCA, and proposed amendments to the APA. I was a substitute teacher in the Baraboo School District specializing in Special Education (Autism and EBD), Foreign Languages (Spanish and French), and STEM.

As President, I participated in media outreach, assisted budget development and execution (~$300k gross revenue), oversaw the performance reviews of the Executive Director, and facilitated Board recruitment and development (started with three males, expanded to 9 members with gender parity and 1/3 racial minority self-identification). I was the chair (2010 –2014) of the Programming Committee and IT Committees, which report directly to the Board; in addition, I served on the Special Events, Development, and Executive Committees. I also co-facilitated OutThere, a social and support group for LGBTQA youth (2008 to 2014).

I volunteer in a variety of positions at OutReach, including serving on the Board of Directors (currently as Secretary), facilitating the group OutThere (18-24 year-old social/support group), chair of the Programming Committee, and additional committees including Executive, Special Events, Development, and IT.

I was a research assitant in the Palmenberg Lab studying the biochemistry of positive strand RNA viruses and their interactions with host-cell machinery. I purified recombinant viral and cellular proteins and measured their affinity/interactions using various biochemical methods including SPR and Nucleotide Spectrofluorimetry. I followed in in vitro studies with in vivo assays in HeLa cell lines to measure impacts on viral replication and gene expression.

I worked in the German Lab using molecular cloning techniques to create virus-resistant transgenic crops. I specifically created fusion proteins between the attachment protein of Tomato Spotted Wilt Virus and the pore-forming domain of the BT toxin and created stable Arabidopsis lines using Agro-launching

I worked in the Sharkey lab creating recombinant glycosylases and characterizing their function in vitro. Specifically I isolated the gene DPE2 from Arabidopsis, expressed in E. coli, and purified via affinity chromatography. I used recombinant enzyme along with long and short-chain polysaccharides to determine the specificity and rate of catalysis using NADPH-linked reduction reactions.
