The multidisciplinary Social Media Lab at Dalhousie is exploring how Web 2.0 technologies affect the way we connect to each other online and offline, and developing new web tools for discovery and visualization of online social networks.Under the direction of Dr. Anatoliy Gruzd, the lab's initiatives include investigating how scholars are using social media, and how the public is using social media for civil discourse in areas such as elections, mass protests and grand sporting events such as the Olympics. This practicum not only allows me the opportunity to practice what I have learned throughout the year, but also the chance to further establish my understanding of the numerous skills that are required to become an effective team member of an archival repository. Some of the tasks that I am involved with:-Continuing DUASC's relationship with Halifax's Ecology Action Centre by digitizing selected material. -Using Dublin Core to create effective metadata -Converting scanned material to .tif, .jpeg & .pdf -Generating interest in the community about current projects through social media applications-Creating a file naming convention that will hopefully be used for future projects-Depositing selected material into Dalhousie's content repository DalSpaceInterested?
