Born and raised in California. I did part of my undergrad at Brigham Young University-Idaho before serving a full-time service mission for 2 years in Peru. During my time in Peru, I learned a lot about the opportunities and needs in public health and that I can make a difference. I am currently finishing up my undergrad at Brigham Young University in Provo. I will graduate next spring with a Bachelor's Degree in Spanish and a minor in chemistry. During my time in Peru I made the decision that I would pursue a career in dentistry. Shadowing dentists in both California and the Utah Valley area has proven to be quite inspiring. The dentists I have shadowed have taught me so much about how to be what I would consider a great dentist. Dentists don't just fix teeth, they are physicians of the mouth that can attend to a variety of patient's health needs/requirements as they treat them as a whole. Most recently I attended the Roseman University of Health Sciences School of Dentistry for their pre-dental day and their dental school sim-course, both of which I thoroughly enjoyed. I have always enjoyed working with my hands and after this experience know the tight spaces won't be a problem. I was able to work with the hand piece and drill for class 5 and class 1 composite filling preps. I also got to do a crown prep, take impressions and casting, do head and neck exams, learn some tooth anatomy, and practice sutures. It was a great experience and I know I will love my chosen career path.
