As a temporary additional responsibility in my SAP leadership role, I was assigned to lead continuous improvement at the Lake Odessa Cargill facility. This was a new role at the plant level and tied together various CI efforts previously assigned to different departments. I was able to formalize plant-level procedures for performance monitoring and tackle several process improvements. Some of the notable initiatives included the following:*Implemented 5Y and RCCA requirement triggers for significant plant events. Built tools for evaluating the cost of these events and created/facilitated cross functional teams to drive issues to resolution. Trained responsible individuals in the use of these tools and methods. *Used historical data and statistical approaches to evaluate and simulate process improvement suggestions in cost/benefit analysis. Justified proposals to save 9 production days annually on one line, and reduce changeover downtime by 71% on another. *Developed and maintained weekly and monthly plant scorecard for production schedule adherence, safety metrics, material usage variance, yields, and up-time efficiency (non-OEE metric).*Analyzed costing and variance data from SAP and BI systems to inform BOM adjustment discussions for new and existing products. *Created statistically-driven models to improve the accuracy of throughput targets for limited volume MTO products.

In this role I led a crew of 15 employees on two processing lines to create a variety of restaurant and retail food products. My department was a HACCP managed process under direct USDA surveillance. While monitoring and ensuring the personal safety of employees and the food safety for our consumers, I was also responsible for employee scheduling, labor assignments, interviews, and performance corrections. Continuous improvement duties I undertook reduced labor costs by 20% for several products and led to $10k/week in material variance savings.
