• Improved rolling practice by manipulating rolling temperatures of high strength low alloy (HSLA) steels to improve shape of coils and reduce defects
• Conducted metallurgical investigation to study any microstructural changes brought about by rolling temperature changes

• Implemented changes to rolling practice and defect count reduced from 3% of total coils produced to 1%

• Microstructure analyst for steel that failed material testing or meeting customer’s required specifications
• Captured nearly 1200 steel samples over 3 months to identify a process contamination issue resulting from unwanted reoxidation in liquid steel
• Optimized steel delivery system once process issue was identified by creating models designed to reduce reoxidation at the source
• Worked with crews and other engineers to ensure models would properly fit into existing system
• Design has been implemented and resulted in less alumina/spinel based clogging in refractory materials and reduced the content of these inclusions in steel
