Ryan Zerby Work Experience Details
  • Z4 Poker
    Devops Engineer
    Z4 Poker May 2019 - Present
    Las Vegas, Nevada, United States
  • Kava
    Senior Devops Engineer
    Kava Jan 2008 - Feb 2019
Kaneva started as an MMO game company that has moved into the casual multiplayer space. This has required a lot of automation, streamlining and process implementation. I was originally brought on to automate the build process of the MMO and was part of the development team but was quickly given an additional hat of being part of the operations team, due to my previous experience. Because of this, I have literally touched every cable, rack, machine and bolt that kaneva deployed as baremetal, all the way up to the automation of the same and the automation of the equivalent AWS cloud datacenters. I have designed and implemented the automated software build pipeline using jenkins, on windows, linux and mac. Some of our products are unity, some are C++, some are node.js and docker. All of them are continuously deployed to our testing sites and deployed as a business decision to our production site (continuous delivery).I have designed and implemented all the infrastructure as code scripts necessary to create, maintain and deploy clusters of windows game servers, rabbitmq clusters, redis, mySql, S3 sites, lambda applications and docker clusters, as well as the creation of additional infrastructure such as jenkins, proget (a repository manager similar to artifactory) and our build machines. Primary languages for this are Powershell, bash, groovy and php. I have been a part of the work flow management and am the administrator for our atlassian stack (Jira, Crucible/Fisheye, Confluence, HipChat), as well as a number of different SCM technologies... plasticSCM, Git, SVN, TFS. I have been part of the decision making team for our monitoring systems, and have performed the implementation and continued maintenance of Nagios, Ipsentry, Check_MK, Splunk, Cloudwatch. Of course, these monitors are all automated with the creation of any machine in our infrastructure.
  • Global Reach, Inc
    Back End Developer
Global Reach, Inc Aug 1998 - Jul 2007
I was originally hired to create java games for one of the subsidary companies, but quickly moved to a senior position in the programming department, writing much of the backend code for the billing systems and advertiser revenue programs, the customer service software, membership management and compliance software, as well as taking part in several different MMO partnerings (worlds.com and prototerra.com being the most prominent). Given my position in back end coding, and my previous experience in an internet security company, I was also given duties in operations for Global Reach, where I ended up doing a large amount of system administration and a smaller amount of baremetal configuration.
  • Netrex Secure Solutions
    Senior Software Engineer
    Netrex Secure Solutions 1995 - 1998
Started as a full stack developer (before it was called that), writing database driven websites for clients, who included a number of publishing companies, auto manufacturers and the state government of michigan. Netrex was an internet security company (later purchased by ISS), and an authorized training center for Checkpoint's Firewall-1 product. I had full training in the firewall-1 product, as well as training in Oracle 11. I ended up writing a number of tcp and rpc utility programs for the company, and an ambitious piece of software trying to correlate the logs of dozens of firewalls, looking to automate the process of intrusion detection across an enterprise, rather than just a single point of attack.
