I conducted research with the Bioprocessing and Membrane Separations lab. My research was primarily centered around the removal of host cell proteins using depth filters and the purification of viruses using Viresolve Pro virus removal filters. In particular, I compared depth filters with diatomaceous earth and those with synthetic silica, utilizing six model proteins varying in molecular weight, isoelectric points, and hydrophobicities. This allowed me to explore the binding capacities of these depth filters and understand their binding mechanisms. The results of my work were recognized in two papers submitted to the Journal of Biotechnology and Bioengineering. This acknowledgment underscored the value of my contribution to the lab and highlighted the impact of our research in the field of bioprocessing. Through this experience, I gained practical skills in lab techniques, scientific analysis, and collaborative research within a professional academic setting. Show less
