Effectively manages the technology department in a large corporation. Can orchestrate multiple different lean and scrum teams at the same time, while balancing responsiveness to change with meeting deadlines. And also balancing ongoing maintenance with new initiatives. Agile software development practitioner and fearless adopter of new technologies and paradigm shifts. Super into generative AI and LLM applications and developing custom machine-learning models. Currently exhilerated by the thrill of setting up a new AI lab aimed at business use cases, where we get to solve new problems in new ways every day using ideas from the latest research papers.Web application developer since the early days of Perl/CGI scripts in 1994. Mobile application developer since mid 90s. (Remember WAP?) Delivered desktop apps for Windows and OSX, as well as mobile apps for iOS, Android and Windows, both native and hybrid HTML5. And many web apps using Ruby, Node.js, Perl, and Java. Kept skills current over entire career. Understands every line of code written by every employee and every contractor. Still writes a lot of code personally, especially early prototypes. Favorite tools at the moment are React, Python, LangChain and AWS Bedrock. A fun project with great people has become a full-time obsession: Setting up an AI lab focused on R&D for text classifiers, LLM orchestration, and other applications of AI/ML for call center QA. I get to spend every day inventing new classifier model architectures and then implementing and evaluating them. And why limit ourselves to text classifiers when there are so many exciting new models that can process audio? What at time to be alive! Many thanks to Call Criteria for letting me use their money to:* Establish an AI/ML lab using Azure ML Studio for MLFlow and AWS EMR for Apache Spark as compute for training and inference* Burn many, many GPU cycles on expensive AWS GPU instances on training ML models at scale* Find every possible way to use vector embeddings models for text classification* Find lots of other ways to do text classification* Find a financially-viable way to do classification using LLMs at scale* Explore doing call center QA with direct audio models instead of through text classification
